Syco with Sony Music Entertainment, who signed them, gave them an award certificate on the multiplatinum sales of 12 million copies of tape products in less than one year.
As quoted from an e-mail sent by Sony Music Entertainment Indonesia to Kompas.com recently, sales figures include the three products - eight million for the single, three million for the album, and one million for the DVD. This is of course a phenomenal achievement. This reinforces the evidence that they are not unstoppable invasion.
One Direction debut album, Up All Night, sold over three million copies worldwide and became the best-selling album in the first position in 16 countries, including the U.S.. In the U.S., their albums became the first British music artist album that sits directly atop the U.S. Billboard album version, some time after their album was released in March 2012. The record was even better than ever printed record by the Beatles, which is ranked only second U.S. album charts when they first penetrate the U.S. market.
Currently, in the U.S. the album is still the best-selling debut album throughout 2012. There, the album was given platinum certification for sales of more than one million copies.
The single "What Makes You Beautiful" has sold over three million copies in the U.S. and five million copies worldwide. 3X DVD they got the certificate of platinum in the U.S..
In their own country, England, the album has reached platinum 2X, while the DVD they are selling products throughout the year. "Really nice. It was incredible. Thank you to all who have supported our team. And, equally important is our fans, Directioners, wherever they may be. We are indebted to them for the success we've achieved this," Liam said representing his friends.
Admittedly, One Direction is a world phenomenon in the entertainment industry. The popularity of boy band formed from the talent search contest X-Factor in London is its popularity skyrocket quickly. One Direction fever infects the entire world, including Indonesia.
So far One Direction, in Indonesia, the album has been certified 3x platinum for sales of CDs and DVDs, making it an international best-selling album in the country today.
Recently nominated by One Direction MTV Video Music Awards for two categories: Best Pop Video and Best New Artist. They will perform at the prestigious event on 6 September 2012 at the Staples Center, Los Angeles, California (USA). They will also appear in a special concert at Madison Square Garden, New York (USA), on December 3, 2012.
Boyband which recently celebrated its second anniversary on July 23, 2012 is also on the titles of Choice Music Breakout Group, Choice Music Star Group, and Choice Summer Song for the song "What Makes You Beautiful" from the Teen Choice Awards 2012.
In between his busy touring, One Direction also preparing to record their next album to be released November 2012.
